Pulp Fiction Tribute

This is very exciting for me. I’ve just received a run of prints of a piece of artwork which was a bit of a gamble, allow me to elaborate:

My own pen and ink style is intentionally unlike anything else I’ve seen (if I do say so myself!), it involves creating the gradation normally produced by hatching with what appears to be almost random line work (I intend to make a post about the evolution of this style at some point for people who don’t bore easily!). I produced this Pulp Fiction tribute work 100% digitally in my style not really knowing if it would translate to print. I was acutely aware that if the printer had to increase or decrease the scale of the image at all then it wouldn’t work, the fine line work and the balance in tone I’d worked for would be lost. It was with tremendous trepidation that I walked into the printers last week to pick up the prints. Thankfully, the gamble paid off, they look great! I couldn’t have had a better Christmas present!

The prints are now for sale in my shop here: http://krisknave.bigcartel.com/ for £10 (free p&p in the UK) or contact me direct - they are printed on quality 250gsm A3 size stock. Please visit and check out my wares (thanks!).

A special thanks goes to Olwen at the printers for her saint-like patience in dealing with a string of inane questions from me as I had a week long anxiety attack about these prints and also for her skills and recommendations that resulted in such a great outcome.

Sketchbook: random

I’ve decided to post pages from my sketch books here, something I’ve never done before but I like seeing sketch book pages from other people.

Anyway, as a pure practice exercise I’ve been pausing the TV and doing a quick sketch of the person I’ve paused on, I hope it will help with just general drawing skill. Here’s one of the pages of my book produced off the TV:

Banner...

Put a banner up – didn’t spend enough time on it really, not overwhelmed with it and will probably do it again but it’s better than just having text for the minute.

Old(ish) stuff...

My work before I began to "branch out" can be found on deviant art under: http://kris-knave.deviantart.com/

I don't think I'll update my deviant art page again, it's a good site with an abundance of extremely able individuals but it soaks up too much time for me (easily distracted). I'll always love pencil work and I still intend to do pencil commissions in this style in future but I'm working on other options also now which I will get to shortly... (hopefully)

(The next time I post here, I've resolved to have put a proper banner in place so it doesn't look so bog standard)

Intro...

It's the 13th, perfect day to begin so I suppose as a first post I should lay out my stall as it were: I’ve started this blog because I’ve decided to take artwork seriously – I’ve flirted with the idea for a while but decided to take the plunge and make a concerted effort. This blog is the first step of hopefully many on that path. Without boring you with too much waffle, I’ll be using this blog to post updates of my progress and development, to post new and old work, news on stuff I’ll be releasing and probably posting some random things too - I’ve been doing a lot of commission work recently but I want to branch out so as and when I do, I’ll be doing it from here. I hope this blog will lead to me connecting with some like minded and/or appreciative individuals.

Anyway, as I said, I don’t wish to bore with waffle, I think that’s enough “laying out of the stall” so then next time I post I’ll post something of substance... (probably)
